Timeline of Chloe Parfums Lagerfeld
1919
Otto Lagerfeld, the son of Maria Lagerfeld and wealthy wine merchant Tönnies Johann Otto Lagerfeld, founded Lagerfeld & Co, a German company that imported Carnation evaporated milk from America.
1923
Otto Lagerfeld created his own brand of condensed milk called Glücksklee, which mean “lucky clover”.
1933
Karl Lagerfeld is born in Hamburg in September 1933 to wealthy parents, a few months after his father joined the Nazi Party. Thanks to the inherited wealth and additional earned wealth of his father through Glücksklee-Milch GmbH, as well as his father’s Nazi Party alignment, Lagerfeld was spared any difficulties from the war.
1953
Karl Lagerfeld moved to Paris to study fashion design.
1954
He designed a yellow coat, which won first prize in the Coats category at the Wool Secretariat design competition. He was then hired this year by Pierre Balmain, who put his prize-winning coat design into production and for whom he would stop working in 1957.
1958
Karl Lagerfeld became chief designer for at the house of Jean Patou and did freelance designing for a few companies in Paris, including Valentino, Krizia, Charles Jourdan, and Chloé.
1963
Karl Lagerfeld was hired by Mme. Gabrielle Aghion, the founder of Chloé, in 1963 as a designer, a position through which he became famous in the 1970s. Here, he helped start the prêt-à -porter revolution.
1965
Lagerfeld began working for Fendi while also working for Chloé. He brought cheaper furs to Fendi, resulting in the killing of many rabbits and squirrels. He also designed Fendi’s double-F logo. His furs, clothing and apparel, shoes, wallets, handbags, sunglasses, and luggage were sold at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and in Fendi Boutiques. He would continue working with Fendi Rome for the rest of his life.
1966
Karl Lagerfeld becomes sole designer of Chloé. He would maintain sole creative control of Chloé until 1997.
1975
Lagerfeld created his own company called “Parfums Lagerfeld” to license his and Chloé’s first perfume, in partnership with Elizabeth Arden, the ever-popular tuberose fragrance Chloe Parfums Lagerfeld. Chloé was created in 1974 and launched in 1975. He was the first prêt-à -porter designer to have his own fragrance. Chloé became my mom’s signature fragrance in its launch-year!

Chloé by Parfums Lagerfeld Original Formula is long discontinued, but can be purchased from OTP here, while supplies last!
